The unmissables
Tulum packs a density of wonders into a few kilometers that is hard to match: Mayan ruins on a turquoise cliff, hundreds of cenotes, the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve, and a food scene that competes with any capital. Staying in Aldea Zamá puts all of it within easy reach.
- Tulum ruins · 15 min. The only Mayan city built facing the sea. Arrive at opening (8 a.m.) to beat the heat and the tour groups; afterwards, climb down for a swim at Playa Ruinas, the cove beneath the cliff.
- Cenotes · 10–25 min. Gran Cenote and Calavera for a first taste; Dos Ojos for world-class snorkeling; Casa Cenote where the underground river opens to the sea. The property's team also organizes hidden-cenote explorations and ceremonies.
- Playa Paraíso & the beach clubs · 10 min. Tulum's white-sand strip is legendary. Playa Paraíso is the classic public entry; the beach clubs offer loungers with a minimum spend. On weekdays it is a different Tulum entirely.
- Sian Ka'an · 40 min. A UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve: mangroves, dolphins, turtles, and floating down crystal-clear Mayan canals. A full-day tour; the concierge coordinates it.
- Cobá · 45 min. Pyramids deep in the jungle, with paths you explore by bicycle. Pairs well with the area's cenotes on the same day.
- The town · 10 min. Tacos on Avenida Tulum, specialty coffee, boutiques and the city's real life. Go hungry.
Without leaving the property
Some days — especially the first and the last — the best plan is none at all. Copal's experience chalkboard announces each morning's program: the Copal ritual at 6 p.m. by the infinity pool, cacao ceremonies, temazcal, and more. Add The Healing Spot spa, the jungle pool and dinner at Kokoro, and you have a perfect day without crossing the gate.
On seasons: November through April is postcard weather — dry, sunny, 77 to 86°F; May through October runs hotter and more humid, with brief afternoon rains, fewer crowds and better rates. Sargassum on the beaches varies week to week; the cenotes, meanwhile, are perfect year-round — part of why Tulum works in any month.
Our suggested first-visit itinerary for 4 nights: day 1, arrival, pool and Gastro & Bar; day 2, ruins early + beach + sunset ritual; day 3, a cenote route and dinner at Kokoro; day 4, Sian Ka'an or a spa day. Ask us to adjust it for your group when you write.
